Villard Blanc Print E-mail

Origin: Francevillard

New York Introduction: Unknown

Atwater Introduction: 1978

Acreage: Atwater Estate Vineyards: .8 acres/ Total New York: Unknown

Viticultural Characteristics: Hardy, very vigorous and moderate yielding vine, it is the most widely grown white hybrid grape in France. Vine is considered disease resistant, though susceptible to powdery mildew. Produces a medium bodied wine with a relatively neutral flavor and aroma. Wine frequently has clarification problems due to high natural iron content.

How we use it: Poor Villard Blanc, Vidal’s lesser-known younger brother,
oft receives no respect, but we love having this rare hybrid on the farm.
It has been used in our Stone Bridge White.
